The Dog Grooming School come in a variety of types, online or hands on in a college. The latter being the more expensive option. There is also the option of research online or in the library and, building up knowledge and if you are lucky, practicing on your own , family or friends pets.
Through the school, whether its online, at college or form a book you will learn about the tools required for dog grooming, and if the course is particularly good, you may also learn about the maintenance of those tools.
It is important that you do your research, especially if those courses that will cost money. Make sure that the course fits your needs an, both with regards to budget and your lifestyle. Make sure you have the time and patience to dedicate to the course. The more focused you are the more you are likely to succeed.
Whilst it isn’t mandatory that you undertake one of these courses, you can only benefit from the course and even if it is just for home use, some knowledge is certainly better than none at all.

- Am I going to be taught modern techniques with state of the art grooming equipment?
- Am I going to work on each dog from start to completion?
- Am I going to be learning in a salon or training environment?
- What is the proportion of practical to theory work?
- Will I have my own personal trainer or will I be allocated more than one during my course?
- Am I going to learn ‘plush scissoring’ i.e. poodles and bichon frise?
- Am I going to learn all aspects of a grooming business including interacting with customers?
All these may help you decide which the best course is for you.
