Now that winter is here, Dog Grooming will become an important part of everyday life for dog owners. If your dogs, much like our own , like nothing more than finding the first available mud bath, then you will have your work cut out this winter. So, as a responsible pet own what can we, or what should we, do to help maintain our pets health.
Hopefully by now you will have built up a little collection of Dog Grooming Equipment , for example Dog grooming Clippers, a nice little brush set, a suitable shampoo and perhaps a guide or two ? Armed with all these, what else could you do to help you through the winter.
Firstly, if your dog is anything like our Beagle, henry, then he/she may well hate having a bath. Â This can be, for some dogs, quite a stressful time. So to minimize this, keeping yourself calm is important and securing the dog is important. Â this will make the process simpler and also minimize the risk of injury to the dog and yourself.
Next, choose a suitable Dog Shampoo. There are plenty available on the market, so consider choosing one that is made from natural products. Try to find one that best suits the type of hair for your dog and one that doesn’t strip out all the natural oils of the hair. After all, it is these oils that are acting as the dogs natural defense against water.
Try talking to your dog all the way through the process. We do this regularly with our dogs and it does have some beneficial effect.
One the dog is cleaned up, make sure you dry them thoroughly, particularly during cold weather. This is very important especially if you have a dog that is getting on in years. If you are lucky to have a dog that likes a hair drier, then this is a great way of speeding up the process.
Finish off with a nice brush down, our Border Terrier usually nods off during this part! So it is important to make sure you have a suitable set of dog brushes, and make sure that they are chosen to suit your dogs type of hair.
This very simple maintenance may seem like common sense, but all too often it is a process that is overlooked. We will go on to discuss these in further detail in later posts. In the meantime, if you have any Dog grooming Tips you would like to share, then please post them here.
